Patient hoofcare with an emphasis on treating the whole horse

The goal is to provide balanced feet and a sound horse. Joanna is certified with the Brotherhood of Working Farriers at a national level and guarantees to respect your horse through every interaction and to work calmly and non violently through any behavior issue that may arise. Most lameness issues can be prevented through properly balancing the foot on a regular schedule. You are not just paying someone to trim and tack on shoes, you are entrusting someone to take care of your horse. Joanna has over 30 years professional equine experience and continues her education every year to constantly be up to date on the latest techniques and technologies in horse care. Her promise is to keep schedules, return texts/calls, and show up.

SERVICES
OFFERED

Keeping horses on a good maintenance schedule is extremely important to hoof health. Research has shown time and again that a shorter 4-6 week schedule for regular hoof care is ideal.

Your time and convenience is also important. In order to better serve you the next appointment is set as soon as your horse is finished and appointment texts or calls are made.

6 STEP BALANCE TRIMS

A 6-step balance trimming method helps eliminate lameness by correcting long toe/low heel problems, or high heel/short toe problems. It eliminates flares which are a major cause of instability in the hoof. It helps correct contracted heels, which are the result of minimal frog contact, and also eliminates the need for remedial shoes which often exacerbate the problem.

+$40 minis (up to 40 minutes)

+$50 standard (up to 1 hour)

HOT SHOEING

While it is not necessary to hot shoe, and not all equines can be hot shod, there are many added benefits. Hot shoeing seals the tubules on the bottom of the foot which helps keep moisture out in wet climates and helps retain moisture in dry climates. It also creates a flatter surface between the shoe and hoof which results in a tighter fit.

COLD SHOEING

There are some nasty rumors out there that keg shoes don't fit as well as hand made shoes and this simply isn't true. A well shaped and flattened keg shoe can fit just as well and provide just as much ground surface support as a hand made shoe. Joanna can also import any shoe to support your horses needs.

+$130 shoes all around (up to 2 hours)

+$95 shoes front trim hind (up to 90)

ABOUT
JOANNA
WILLIAMS

Joanna Williams is a real horsewoman. Dynamic, talented, and passionate, her previous experiences with delicate horses and ponies have taught her to have unfailing patience and delicacy. She knows how important it is to be calm when caring for an animal like a horse, especially when they suffered abuse.

Originally from Maine, Joanna spent some time in Montana surrounded by horses. She credits her experience there for her belief for barefoot care. She witnessed that many horses out in that area are run for miles over mountain ranges barefoot for better traction and to prevent slipping on ice.

Joanna worked for an "A" circuit hunter jumper trainer who also kept her horses barefoot. The trainer would also rehab lame horses and set them straight by using body work and barefoot. By seeing these amazing transformations, Joanna simply does not believe in extreme corrective shoeing such as circle shoes, pads, clips, or bars. But she strongly believes in corrective trimming used in conjunction with scoot boots or casts.

She’s led by the desire to understand horses better. After more than 10 years of self-study of the anatomy, physiology and nutritional needs of horses, her desire to become a farrier really took root.

Before the pandemic, Joanna was working on the island of Kaho’olawe, in Maui. When her entire department was laid off it was a blessing in disguise. Less than a week after she joined the Casey and Son’s Horseshoeing School located in Georgia. Her choice was not a coincidence as it’s the location of the National Farrier’s Research Institute and endorsed by The Brotherhood of Working Farriers. She passed her test with flying colors and earned her BWFA certification. Even if she left school, she maintains a rigorous continuing education and travels to the mainland twice a year to continue school in person and attend clinics.

She is not only a talented and committed farrier, she’s also a massage therapist for humans and horses as she strongly believes in the healing power of touch. A few years back, she was a victim of a car accident and decided to choose massages, yoga and acupuncture to relieve her pain. That’s when she discovered a different way to move through pain and dysfunction into healing and longevity.

Joanna is eager to simplify your shoes and help you and your horse have many years of happy trails or shows together !
